Barry
Nelson, founder of Buddy Bike, is the father of Jesse, a young adult
with autism. In October 2012 Barry and Jesse will ride their Buddy
Bike on the East Coast Greenway to support people of all ages and
abilities biking together! We hope you'll join us!
Barry and Jesse plan to travel the
East Coast Greenway to promote safe bike trails for riders of all
abilities while raising funds for
Assisted Cycling Tours, an organization that is opening the world of cycling to people
with developmental and/or physical disabilities.
Best Buddies
Challenge Washington, D.C. Supporting Best Buddies to help create one-to-one friendships
between volunteers and teens/adults with intellectual disabilities.
Best Buddies introduces socialization opportunities and job coaching,
providing the necessary tools for people with IDD (intellectual and
developmental disabilities) to become more independent and,
consequently, more included in the community.
The goal of
this ride is to use bicycles to promote inclusion. Where other rides
include cyclists who may not understand who they are riding for, this
ride includes the people who will benefit directly from the funds and
awareness raised.
