BUDDY BIKE LISTING AT ABLEPLAY.ORG |
| |
|
SHELLEY'S NOTE:
I have searched long and hard to find case studies
and statistics regarding the benefits of bicycling
for special needs kids in order to help the families
that are trying to obtain funding for the Buddy Bike
as therapeutic equipment. Since cycling options for
kids with special needs are limited, my searches
were unsuccessful. So I am really excited about this AblePlay product listing. According to information
published by AblePlay, few products achieve 5
stars in all categories so our listing is pretty
outstanding. They rated us lower in the
physical category because children must have a 24"
inseam to pedal. I hope that our customers
will find this report to be useful. Please let me
know if you have any success stories. |

product that is friendly for children of all abilities by
AblePlay and the
National Lekotek Center.

She kept asking I want to
go again, again. Her sister enjoyed it too. It gave her
some [courage] to get back on her own bike, which she
hadn't been on since a bad spill she took last Spring.
And as far as Kristine (the one we got the bike for)
while we were taking turns on the Buddy Bike she pulled
out her old bike and started riding it...she would never ever ride it before.
It was a really special time with the Buddy Bike in
hand, we rode bikes together on Christmas day for the
first time ever as a family.

MIAMI MAYOR SUPPORTS CYCLING WITH LOCAL EVENTS
In 2008
Bicycling magazine listed Miami as one of the worst cities
for cycling in the United States.
Mayor Manny Diaz, nationally known for his sustainable
initiatives and President of the United States Conference of
Mayors, and the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee of Miami-Dade
County are attempting to change that by organizing cycling
events and by working to improve the county's cycling options. |

BIKE MIAMI DAYS
On November 9, 2008, Buddy
Bike, LLC was the first local businesses to support and
participate in the first Bike Miami event. This event
closed streets to cars in downtown Miami so bicyclists,
pedestrians, in-line skaters and others could explore the
area in a fun, safe and completely free way. Bike Miami is
an initiative by City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz to promote
bicycling, livable streets and the growing urban
neighborhood of Downtown Miami. The first event was a huge
success creating the support to offer a monthly series now
called
Bike Miami Days with possible plans for extending
the ride through other neighborhoods.
Bike Miami Days tentative
dates for 2009 are:
January 18,
February 21, March 14, April 26 and May 17. |

RIDE THE
RICKENBACKER - MIAMI, FL
On Saturday, January 19,
2009, bicyclists are invited to “Ride the Rickenbacker”
from 9:00 PM to 12 PM in celebration of the completion of
improvements to the Rickenbacker Causeway and on- and
off-road bicycle lanes.
This event also
celebrates the movement to make Miami-Dade County one of
the pre-eminent cycling locations in the world. Working
together, different county departments and cities, along
with state and federal agencies are in the process of
creating a web of bikeways and greenways that will provide
cyclists with greater opportunities to move around the
county. When fully built, the 500-plus miles of trails and
bikeways will form a more livable and sustainable
community and will include etiquette signs, interpretive
signs, educational signs, mile markers, trail maps, and
pedestrian directional signs.
“The bike lane project on
the Rickenbacker Causeway, along with the lanes on Crandon
Park and the Village of Key Biscayne, link five beautiful
parks for everyone to enjoy. This is the essence and
vision of Miami-Dade County’s Open Space Master Plan,”
said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez.
