How far would you go to ride a bike?
Every cyclist knows that riding a bike provides good
health, peace of mind and that tremendous rush; but do you
REALLY know the benefits? Many of us take for granted that
we can perform daily activities like walk, talk - and ride a
bike. If you or one of your family members could not ride a bicycle
for some reason, what would be the benefits then?
What if riding a bike was not just what you do to blow off
steam and get your workout? What if it meant freedom from
physical or mental challenges and frustrations? What if it
became a statement and that one thing that you
have to do no matter what it takes? How far would you go? Tell us about it at the Adaptive Cycling Roundtable. |

About the Adaptive
Cycling Roundtable
The first
Adaptive Cycling Roundtable will take place on October 23, 2011, at the first
annual
Recumbent Cycle-Con Convention & Trade Show. In a 2011 survey by
Autism Speaks, 83% of respondents said "they had difficulty finding
'appropriate' recreational activities, such as programs for kids with
special needs." The Adaptive Cycling Roundtable will address the needs of
adaptive and alternative cyclists and is intended to be an informational
brainstorming session bringing together dealers, consumers and leaders of
the alternative cycling community. The session
will be audio/videotaped for podcasts and/or internet distribution
after the event.
Discussion Topics:
- How are bike shops providing
alternative cycling solutions for adaptive cyclists? Presentation of
adaptive cycling products, accessories and resources.
- How to interact with people with
disabilities and their families. How would special needs customers like
to be treated when they enter a bike shop?
- What are the benefits of cycling for
special needs riders and how are bikes being used by adaptive cycling
programs, camps, schools and medical facilities? What physical and/or
emotional improvements have been noticed?
- How can medical funds and grants be
obtained to purchase adaptive bikes as therapeutic equipment?
- How is adaptive cycling being
addressed by government agencies and national bike organizations?
- Is there a need for a national
adaptive cycling association?
Learn more about adaptive cycling and
meet the panelists at Adaptive Cycling Booth 1013 at Recumbent Cycle-Con.
